I took this photo on Saturday, October 21st, around 8:30 AM. There was a lovely mist on the lake.

Still plugging away on that monster portrait. I’m also starting the first of what I hope to be many paintings from references collected last month on St. Simons. It will be a 12″x24″ painting of a couple of trees on the edge of the Marshes of Glynn, with very dramatic early-morning storm lighting. And, I’m starting one more painting, this one for my weekly class. I’ve been drawing exclusively since April, and this is the first painting project. It’s a copy, with adjustments, of an 1891 still life with apples by Lemuel Everett Wilmarth.
Next weekend – the weekend of the 20th – we’re going to the North Carolina mountains for a couple of nights. I hope to collect a lot of fall foliage reference, but that’s hit-and-miss. We’ll see.
Here is a photograph from St. Simons.
